Weekly Update

Another somewhat rainy and warm week at the gulf.  Mardi Gras is over, so things around here are somewhat back to normal.  Got in a couple of meals at LA BBQ & The Steamer with Greg & Judy, Chuck & Chris, and Don & Zola.  Plus we (I) survived the Verizon LTE (4G) network meltdown on Wednesday.  Still need to find Wolfe Bay Lodge.  Guys in the circle say it's great for lunch.  Next week is the last week for the snowbird meal discounts, so gotta go out there and get 'em before they're gone.

Lotsa fun coming up this next week.  Marti and Terry are due down here for a visit Wednesday.  And if all goes as planned, we'll get over to Bill & Debra's for the weekend.

Food for thought:  If the media had kept their mouth shut, would gas and diesel prices have gone up?

Weekly Update

Geez - another week flies by.  Three weeks and we begin our trek back to Virginia for a visit plus our annual trips to the doctors.  Stops at Birmingham, AL; Stone Mountain, GA; and High Point, NC are planned along the way.  (This is your "fair" warning.)

Donna almost made it to Ft Morgan from the campground by bicycle.  Round trip, we estimated she made a trip length of almost 36 miles.  For me, I completed my CFI refresher course in New Orleans.  Good for another two years, there. Otherwise, after a cold weekend it was just a rainy, warm week down here...and fun playing with a neighbor's new puppy.

So that's it for this week.  Later, David

Apparently, our buddy's been moved.  Haven't see it in two weeks.

At the Hangout

Unsure of all the TV markets for the BP advertisement, but along the gulf coast BP's been braggin' about all the tourism that's visited over the past year.  (I'm sure that's part of the BP settlement for the oil spill.) We've watched that advertise since Christmas while at Sunrise, FL.  Anyway, when it comes Alabama's turn, the group states "that everyone came to Hangout with us."  Well, we visited the Hangout this week just to check it out. We've driven by it many times and it's along the beach bike path.  If you're looking for it, it's at the intersection of US 59 and Hwy 182, beach side.  If you click on the location link at the bottom of this blog post, you're suppose to get a google map of it. Don't forget to zoom in.

While it wasn't busy while we were there, it looks like a placed that'd be packed during summer and possibly one to avoid during any beach festival (I know - that's heresy down here!)   As we walked around, the first thing that came to my mind was Jimmy Buffett's "Magaritaville".  (Speaking of Jimmy Buffett; his sister's place, Lulu's, is a pretty nice spot, too!)  So here's some pictures to give you a feel for the place.  And as the sign says, be nice or go home.

National Naval Aviation Museum

A-4 Skyhawk

Finally got to the National Naval Aviation Museum this week.  Hadn't been there since 1976.  Sensory overload for me.  Just way too many aircraft all bunched together.  Made it hard to get pictures of just individual aircraft.  I've posted a few pictures here just to give you a feel.  If you're not into aircraft, plan on a few hours if you visit.  Otherwise, plan on spending days here.

We're fine and still doing what we do best at Gulf Shores - eat.  Been a wet week so far, but it's relatively warm and not too stormy.  Not good bicycling weather, so short walks between rain showers are the norm for this week.

Later, David.

NC-4.  First to make it across the Atlantic Ocean.

Corsair.  Painted as if it's part of the Black Sheep Squadron

German ME 262.  An example of the jet fighter seen in "Red Tails".

F-14 Tomcat

Couldn't resist!
