Muskegon Week 2

We're continuing to have a nice visit here in Muskegon.  We're fine & have taken several bicycle rides up to Montague and one today along the water front at Muskegon.  No rides to Country Dairy...yet.

Donna has rented a new bicycle seat for City Hub Cycletry's bicycle seat library.  She's on her second seat trial and may have found the one she wants.  City Hub does want her to try one more, but we may not be here long enough to do that.

We've made restaurant visits to Lefty & Romos' Grill and Steak 'N Egger (both recommended).  Desert visits were made to Hometown Creamery & Yodels.  Donna prefers Yodels (yogurt).  However, I haven't ran across an ice cream place I didn't like and any place that has more than one flavor I want to try works for me.  I highly recommend Hometown Creamery.

We're gonna try to work in a ride to Country Dairy before we leave Tuesday for Traverse City.  Donna wants to eat there one more time and, hopefully, the wind will die down enough to do that.

That's it from here.  Have a safe Memorial Day weekend.  Until next week, David

Back at Muskegon, MI

We're back in Muskegon, MI for a couple of weeks on our way to Two Harbors, MN.  We're back at Duck Creek RV Resort just across from the Michigan's Adventure amusement park.  We got here Monday after a great weekend visiting with Greg & Judy and Jeff & Susan at Shipshewana, IN.

So far we've only gotten one bicycle ride in from the campground to Montague and back plus a few walks.  Rain, wind, and pollen seem to be our greeting this week though we're expecting the wind to calm down tomorrow.  Today, we just drove around sightseeing and used that as an excuse to eat at Country Dairy near New Era, MI.  We stopped in at a couple of other tourist traps to check on flowering plants, fudge, t-shirts, etc.

Yesterday, we got to go to the Whitehall Walmart's grand opening.  Sure was a lot of people there for all the opposition to the Walmart that we read about while here last year.  We also took a short trip into Muskegon to a bicycle shop to get Donna a new bicycle seat.  The City Hub Cyclery has a rent-a-seat program that let's you test out a seat for a week.  Donna's got a new one to test, and she just can't wait to get back on the trail and test it out.  If it doesn't work out, we just go down to City Hub Cyclery, turn in the current seat, pick up a new one, and go try again.  Nice program if you ask me.

So that's our week.  Thanks for dropping by and checking in on us.  Later, David

Elkhart City River Walk

Today we went to Elkhart to pick up mail.  While there we decided to take a walk along Elkhart's River Walk.  The main walk is along the old industrial part of town that was generally powered by the Elkhart River's waters.  Wandering along the  paths will eventually get you along the St Joseph River and the old swimming pools & water park area.

Had a nice walk which took about 1.5 hrs.  In other news we got off light at MORryde to have the trailer suspension replaced.  Seems we're fine as is though our trailer to truck bed rails is on the low sided.  Too low to have the suspension replaced with the MORryde IS Suspension unless we get a taller hitch.  Our most challenging places for bed rail to trailer clearance are
Birmingham South (B'ham, AL) and Friendship Village (Bedford, PA) campgrounds.  We cleared both of those just fine, so there's really no need to do anything.  It just that I could have sworn we were traveling with the trailer front high and outside DRV specs.  For now we're going to travel "as-is".  If we run into a bed rail to trailer clearance issue, we'll revisit all this.

As no more work is needed, we're spending the rest of the week at Shipshewana, IN.  Plans are to move north Monday.  Until then we're just hanging out having fun.  We're over our colds.  Greg & Judy are here and Jeff & Susan are in the local area.  Consequently, we're getting in some good visiting time and eating out too much.  Oh well, there's bicycle riding  to look forward to next week.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by and checking in.  Later, David

Elkhart, IN

This week finds us in a wet, soggy northern Indiana.  One advantage of heading north is that we tend to miss the most severe weather.  We were successful in that this year, but we didn't miss the rain.  It's normally cool and rainy when were here this time of year, but this visit is especially wet.

We started this period by moving to Lagrange, IN on Saturday ahead of the rain settling in and spending the weekend at the service center awaiting our Monday morning trailer service appointment.  We finished our main service at Lagrange on Wednesday, spent Wednesday night at Shipshewana, then moved over to the Onan Service Center in Elkhart this morning to have our generator checked out.  Seems all's OK with the genie, so tonight we're taking advantage of the paved campsites at the service center before moving back to Shipshewana tomorrow.  We plan to spend the weekend there.  Next week is our suspension upgrade appointment at MOR/ryde (again, back in Elkhart).   This is a result of us purchasing a 2017 Ford pickup and is being done so we can tow the trailer level, balance the trailer weight on the trailer axles, and gain back some much needed trailer-truck clearance at the truck's tailgate.  So it's been exciting...well sort of as we find out our truck had quit charging the trailer batteries (codes cleared, so we're all good).  And then there's the moving around in the rain which is always fun.

In other news, we're getting over our colds.  Both of us still coughing, but we're better.  Hopefully, we won't make ourselves sick moving around in the rain.  Otherwise, we're good, hungry, and looking forward to getting outside when the rain stops.

So that's it for us.  Thanks for stopping by and checking up on us.  Everyone have a great weekend.   We'll be thinking of you as we eat Ben's Pretzels.  David
