Fredericksburg, VA

After a somewhat rainy weekend at High Point, NC, we had a really nice trip up to Fredericksburg, VA for our semiannual doc & dentist visits.  We're back at the KOA in Thornburg and plan to be here until mid April.  From here's it back to Indiana for semiannual trailer service and repair.  After that we've got a couple of weeks to travel to Jackson, WY for the summer.  We plan on traveling the "high" route (I-90) as we don't have to be in Jackson until the week of May 17th.  We'll let ya know how it works out!

That gets you up to date with us.  Thanks for dropping by and checking up on us.  We'll update the blog once we're moving again.  David

High Point, NC

After a nice visit with Donna's brother and a quick trip over to see Dad & Anna, we've moved to High Point, NC to wait out this next weather system.  We left a day early from Stone Mountain and arrived at Oak Hollow Family Campground yesterday.  As predicted, it's rainy, foggy and about 55 this morning.

Campground not too busy at the moment.  Market Week (semiannual "meeting" of all the furniture manufactures to show their wares to each other and retailers) isn't for another week or so.

We still plan to try to visit Fries, VA to check out the New River Bicycle Trail.  We may go without the bicycles due to the weather.  We have at least one friend we'll try to visit this week, too.  We'll see how it all goes.

That gets you up to date with us.  Next planned move is to Fredericksburg, VA on Monday.  Thanks for dropping by and checking up on us.  Until next time, David

Stone Mountain Campground

Stone Mountain Park continues it's upgrades to the campground that began last spring before the pandemic set in.  The completed areas give a true resort feel to the campground while retaining the primitive sites.   Posted pictures here will, hopefully, give you a feel for the improvements that were made. Sections of the road were repaved and restriped.  Most of sites now have new landscape timbers to edge the RV sites except for section L which has poured concrete edging.  Trails were added to allow travel between loops without walking campground roads.  And as you can see in the above picture, at least one pedestrian bridge was added.

New loop signs were added as were loop names. Even the comfort stations have new signs to go with their numbered identification.  Campsites were also renumbered.  You'll want to review the new campground map online when making reservations if you've been a long time user of this campground.

These renovated areas stand in stark contrast to the older sections.  When walking the older sections, the "rustic" feel really stands out to the point that these areas seem neglected.  All the complaints you read about this campground in Campground Reviews are still there in the older sections.  Unlevel is an understatement.  It does appear these areas will eventually be renovated.

Except for family, there's no reason for Donna and I to visit Atlanta.  If fact, we hate Atlanta traffic and dread the thought of even traveling through it.  However, the Stone Mountain Campground remains a jewel of the area and a favorite campground of ours.  If you want to stop near Atlanta, we highly recommend this campground.  It's not Fort Wilderness (Disney World), but the newly renovated sections come close.  In our opinion, Stone Mountain could legitimately add the word "Resort" to the campground name.  Reservations highly recommend - pretty much required these days.  It's worth at least one overnight and the obnoxious Atlanta traffic just to see it.  #StoneMountainCampground #StoneMountainCampging

Safari Tents

These are sites 166, 168, 170, 172, 174 and give you some of the best lake views from the renovated section.  In the past these were not satellite friendly sites, but may be satellite friendly now.

Stone Mountain, GA

After a Saturday night stop in Tifton, GA, we arrived at Stone Mountain State Park for a week or so to visit Donna's brother.  We had a great visit in Eustis and look forward to more in the future.  Truck service (front-end alignment) is planned for tomorrow and a visit to Dad & Anna sometime this coming week.

Stone Mountain Park's campground busy this year.  They've continued to pour money into it, and to help keep me confused, renumbered the sites plus add loop names.  It's all nice, though.  Still one of our favorite campgrounds.

That's gets you up to date.  Thanks for dropping by and checking up on us.  Until next week, David

Eustis, FL

You know it's time to update the blog when you can't remember the password.

We left Gulf Shores on March 1st in the rain.  After a wet couple of nights in Tallahassee, we arrived in sunny Eustis, FL.  We're at Southern Palms "Resort" visiting Donna's brother and sister-in-law who live nearby.

It seems that every time we come down here, friends who lived in other parts of the U.S. have retired and moved to the central Florida area.  This time it's Tim and Kitty who followed her sister down from Virginia to the central Florida area.  While Donna had visited with Kitty from time-to-time when we were in Virginia, I hadn't seen them since we'd retired.  We were able to go to their house and eat a late-lunch/early-dinner out at the Crooked Cucumber near Ocala.  We had a great visit and look forward to seeing them in future visits.

Today, we're going to see Tom & Heather for another late-lunch/early-dinner out.  Be interesting to see them and they're adventures.

Since the pandemic is still around, there's no Disney Springs visit.  No kayak trips with Donna's brother.  A little shopping, but mostly invading Donna's brother & sister-in-law.  We have to be careful we're not over there too much!

So that gets you up to date.  We plan to depart for Stone Mountain, Ga this weekend.  Looks like it'll be a warm weekend for travel.  It may be hot, but I'll take it over hitching and unhitching in rain and thunderstorms! Thanks for dropping by and checking up on us.  I'll try to be more timely in our blog posts.  David
