Tahquamenon Falls

Upper Falls

Eastern Hemlocks along the river bank
What started out as a cloudy day turned into a beautiful sunny day.  Unfortunately, the clouds returned just in time to hide the moon!  But while the sun shined, we took about a two hour drive up to Tahquamenon Falls State Park near Paradise, Michigan. The falls has both an upper and lower falls section, good hiking trails, and a nice campground (electric).
While it's a hardwood forest, hemlocks rule the river bank.  We found this especially exciting since Shenandoah Natl Park lost most of its hemlocks while we lived in northern Virginia.

While the upper falls is what we'd think of as a traditional water fall, the lower falls looks like a group of cascades.  Of course, I'd probably see that differently if I was going over them in a canoe!

One special note:  there's a brewery pub at the upper falls parking lot.

Anyway, here's some pictures of our half day at Tahquamenon Falls State Park.  And no, I can't say the name of the falls, either.  David
